Getting higher.

Stuart Hay had cleverly warned us that the East Lothian roads would be taken up with the Ironman 70.3 happening today, so we headed off for the Pentlands instead.
We both took a while to get moving in the morning, and then had to take a strange route through town as the road up past the parliament was closed.

It was darker and windier today than expected. Getting up into the Pentlands, both of were struck by the lack of things to look at. I think we've got spoiled with flowers and butterflies and all the life that is burgeoning down at sea-level. It was a good chance to try out our hill legs though, and we weren't too bad.

But we were both also noticing how thin non-Hoka shoes feel on the sharp little stones coming back down between the hills.

I realised that I hadn't been in the Pentlands since the Carnethy 5, and maybe the Carnethy 5 had something to do with it!

Anyway. Good day out. We had to take another diversion on the way home because of the IM 70.3 again.

Glad to be home.
